To ensure that patients get the answers they need to make informed care decisions, we require methodological rigor in patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR). Although methods for engaging stakeholders in PCOR have progressed a great deal, significant knowledge gaps remain. Patient, community-based, and clinician organizations work at the frontline of our nation’s primary health care system, yet their research priorities are insufficiently understood. Researchers, funders, and community stakeholders alike can benefit from improved methods aimed at inviting and using these stakeholders’ contributions to shape the PCOR agenda.
