Duarte galactosemia (DG) is an allelic variant of the potentially lethal disorder classic galactosemia. For decades, infants with DG have been identified by newborn screening but there has been no uniform standard of care for follow-up or intervention. Specifically, there has been disagreement among stakeholders concerning whether high-galactose milk, including breast milk, should be restricted, at least in infancy.
