Strategies used to control a pandemic, such as isolation and quarantines, disproportionately affect adults with bipolar spectrum disorders (BSDs). However, the effects of these restrictions on youth with BSD remain unknown. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a dramatic shift in mental health (MH) care delivery from in person to telehealth. Very little research has examined the effects of providing these services for youth via telehealth. An evaluation of telehealth and associated factors such as barriers, modality (telephone or video), frequency, duration, and type of treatment, for youth with BSD was urgently needed.
