The National Center for Health Statistics administers the National Health Insurance Survey (NHIS), which is the largest nationally representative survey focused on the health of the civilian noninstitutionalized US population. The NHIS Early Release Program provides a limited set of summary statistics on health coverage and other outcomes, including national estimates of uninsurance, private coverage, and public coverage rates.
