This is an extension of the National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network (PCORnet) Bariatric Study (PBS), completed in 2019, which showed that patients who underwent Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) or sleeve gastrectomy (SG) had greater weight loss and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remission and fewer operations and interventions than patients who underwent adjustable gastric banding. The PBS found higher weight loss and diabetes remission and worse safety for RYGB than for SG. The purpose of this study extension was to conduct a comparative effectiveness analysis of RYGB and SG to determine the influence of depression status and race and ethnicity on these outcomes.
