The explosive growth in the number of original biomedical research publications and subsequent systematic reviews has driven the increase in the number of software tools created to automate many of the processes involved in the conduct of systematic reviews, particularly search strategy design and execution. However, this growth in software tools has not been accompanied by a systematic approach for providing expert review of these tools and their utility in supporting search strategy development.
